Why a Study Tour in Statistics?
Statistics is deeply connected with almost every sector of society. Government departments, industries, agriculture, environmental organizations, meteorological systems and administrative institutions all depend on the systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
The Department designed the study tour with the objective of helping students understand how raw data is collected, processed, analyzed and transformed into useful information for decision-making. During the tour, students were exposed to practical examples of data collection, statistical modelling and record management.
This helped students understand that the concepts studied in classrooms are not merely theoretical formulas but are tools used to understand and solve real-world problems.
Exploring Data Collection and Sampling
One of the important learning components of the tour was the observation of data collection and survey processes.
Students were introduced to the practical importance of conducting surveys systematically and understanding the challenges associated with data collection. This real-world example helped students appreciate the importance of Statistics in modern renewable-energy applications and demonstrated how statistical models can contribute to technological and environmental decision-making.
