The Department of Statistics, Dattajirao Kadam Arts, Science and Commerce College, Ichalkaranji, celebrated Teachers’ Day on 5 September 2026 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the eminent philosopher, scholar, and former President of India.
The celebration was organized exclusively by the Statistics students of B.Sc. First, Second, and Third Year. As part of the celebration, students stepped into the role of teachers and conducted classroom sessions, providing them with a valuable opportunity to experience the responsibilities and challenges of the teaching profession.
B.Sc. Second Year students Shravani Jadhav and Vishnu Gupta taught the B.Sc. First Year class, while B.Sc. Third Year students Vaishnavi Ghodake and Pranali Powar taught the B.Sc. Second Year class. This innovative activity encouraged students to develop confidence, communication skills, leadership qualities, classroom management, and a deeper appreciation for the role of teachers.
The celebration concluded with a special programme anchored by Vaishnavi Ghodake, a student of the Department of Statistics. The programme was graced by Mr. Vijay R. Suryawanshi, Head of the Department of Statistics, along with Mr. Rohit C. Sadalage, Mrs. Kavita K. Koli, and Miss Arati Ramesh Vadd. In his presidential address, Mr. Vijay R. Suryawanshi explained the significance of Teachers’ Day and highlighted the invaluable contribution of teachers in shaping students’ knowledge, character, and future. Reflecting the vision of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, he emphasised the importance of education and the noble responsibility of teachers in society. As Dr. Radhakrishnan famously said, “Teachers should be the best minds in the country.” Miss Arati Ramesh Vadd shared her thoughts on the students’ participation and spoke about their experience of taking on the role of teachers. Her reflections added warmth and meaning to the celebration.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Pranali Powar, who expressed sincere gratitude to the Head of the Department, faculty members, and students for their valuable contribution to the successful celebration. The Teachers’ Day celebration was not merely an event to honour teachers but also an enriching experiential learning activity that enabled students to understand teaching from the teacher’s perspective. The initiative strengthened the bond between teachers and students while encouraging responsibility, confidence, and leadership among the participants. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s words, “The true teachers are those who help us think for ourselves,” beautifully capture the spirit of the celebration. The Department of Statistics successfully transformed Teachers’ Day into a memorable academic experience that celebrated the teaching profession and inspired students to learn, lead, and contribute meaningfully to society.
